ABOUT HAF – HAF was established in 1985 as the first Latino organization to respond to the devastation that AIDS was causing in our communities in New York City and nationwide. We have a rich history of innovative program design, the provision of cutting-edge services, public policy advocacy, and fighting stigma and discrimination. Our services are available to those who qualify regardless of race/ethnicity, national origin, age, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration and/or health status.

HAF’s mission is to improve health outcomes for Latinos affected with chronic illness in New York City. In fulfilling HAF’s mission, we do everything possible to provide integrated prevention, education, advocacy, and support services.

While our services are designed in response to a very diverse Latino community, we are better known for our pioneering efforts in the creation of programs and services specifically tailored to the needs of Latino men who love men (MLM), transgender women, and LGBTQ youth. In 2015 HAF and QPH (Queens Pride House) joined in a strategic alliance to provide services jointly under the direction of a single management team and board of directors. As such HAF-QPH currently operates at two distinct locations, i.e., Bronx and Queens, NYC. HAF-QPH anticipates opening a site in Manhattan soon.

On average, the sum of the services offered by HAF-QPH reach over 6,000 unduplicated participants annually. HAF’s clients reside in neighborhoods where residents have high incidences of HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases, present moderate to high risks behaviors for infection/transmission, have limited resources, are largely uninsured, and exhibit poor health outcomes. Over 80% are immigrants from Latin America, Caribbean, Africa and Eastern Europe.
